Scillonian III approaching the Isles of Scilly

Sail onboard Scillonian III

Scillonian III sails from Penzance once a day, Monday to Saturday (with frequent Sunday sailing in summer). The crossing takes a little under 3 hours and eases you into your holiday.

Scillonian III is the cheapest and most camper-friendly way of getting to Scilly, with a 25kg luggage allowance per person (see the Isles of Scilly Travel website for excess luggage details). All luggage must be labelled with a green Bryher label, which are available at Penzance Quay prior to departure.

On arrival at St Mary’s you will board the blue ferry Firethorn. This usually departs around half an hour after the Scillonian docks, but listen for announcements onboard the Scillonian for the exact time. Provided your luggage has a green Bryher label attached, it will be transferred straight from the hold of the Scillonian to Firethorn, so you don’t need to worry about your luggage at all.

Skybus over St Mary's Scilly

Fly with Skybus

Skybus is Scilly’s own airline and offers you a choice of departing from Exeter, Newquay or Land’s End airports. It’s the fastest way of reaching the islands and offers incredible views of the archipelago as you approach.

If you are flying with Skybus you will have a 15kg per person luggage allowance, which is strictly enforced (for excess luggage information see theIsles of Scilly Travel website).

On arrival at St Mary’s airport you’ll need to collect your luggage and then get on one of the waiting minibuses to the quay (there is a small charge for this). From here you will be able to board one of the vessels from Tresco Boat Services to transfer you to Bryher. Please let us know your flight time prior to your holiday so we can let you know your boat time. We recommend booking an early flight where possible, as later arrivals may have to pay for a special hire boat.

Getting to Bryher Campsite

Firethorn at Bryher QuayWhen you get to Bryher, you’ll be met on either the Quay or low tide ‘Bar’ by one of the Campsite team, as long as you’ve let us know your arrival details. Look out for the big red tractor!

It would be much appreciated if you could help form a ‘human chain’ to get everyone’s luggage off the boat – many hands make light work! Your luggage will then be taken to the campsite by tractor and trailer, and should be there by the time you arrive.

The campsite is only a short walk from either arrival point – just ask the tractor driver if you’re not sure where you’re going.

Luggage

Tresco Boats charge a small fee per family/group for luggage transfer from St Mary’s to Bryher. This is added to your campsite bill. This charge is not made for backpackers.
